Training Opportunities

The South Carolina National Heritage Corridor now offers nationally recognized interpretive workshops that will help your organization achieve its interpretive goals. These workshops, which culminate in national certifications, have been created by the National Association for Interpretation to recognize individuals who exhibit knowledge and skills necessary to assure quality interpretive services to all audiences. The SCNHC now has a Certified Interpretive Trainer on staff and can bring these workshops and certifications to you. We currently offer two certification programs, the Certified Interpretive Guide and the Certified Interpretive Host workshops. Please read the descriptions below and download the PDF brochures for more information.

Certified Interpretive Host Workshop

The Certified Interpretive Host (CIH) category is designed for staff and volunteers at interpretive sites who have public contact but don't usually deliver interpretive programs. Receptionists, maintenance workers, law enforcement officers, campground hosts, greeters and sales clerks are among the individuals who may find the program helpful. CIH training combines customer service with informal interpretation to help participants improve their responses to guests in general while helping achieve stewardship goals of the organization.
